Commissioning a piece of jewellery
Creating a piece of individual jewellery for a Client takes time, an awful lot of effort and emotional energy. The process that we go through is very thorough and involves getting to know the person for whom it is intended to make sure the piece of jewellery is individual to them.
In some respects it is like I am the artist doing the portrait, your first effort is never spot on so you go back to the drawing board again until you believe the masterpiece is ready to be presented for approval. There is always a great feeling of satisfaction when a Client approves the jewellery for production - you have invested a lot of yourself in its creation but also you have created a piece of jewellery that someone has dreamed of. At this stage the Client wants the piece as soon as possible however the difficult part is just beginning.
The production of a fine piece of jewellery can take up to 6 weeks and in some cases longer due to the complexity of the creation. Occassionally there are obstacles that need to be overcome - you need more time to source the ideal gemstone from Brazil or your setter has gone on holiday. We feel that all of these obstacles are all part of the process that goes into creating a special piece of jewellery and something that will stand the test of time.
We recently had to overcome several obstacles which meant that a Client was waiting 10 weeks for a piece. Now this was unusual and was due several obstacles that we had no control of - lots of hand holding was required. In the end we produced a stunning piece and received the following thanks from our patient Client.
'Once again a huge thank you for the ring. I am over the moon and delighted with how it turned out.' All's well that ends well!
Oh, that reminds me, now is the time to commission a piece of jewellery in time for Christmas.
