Pricing and VAT

  1. All prices stated on this website include and are subject to the current rate of UK VAT at the then prevailing rate. However, if the rate of VAT changes between the date of your order and the date of delivery, where applicable, we will adjust the VAT you pay, unless you have already paid for the Products in full before the change in VAT takes effect.
  2. VAT is charged on all orders including international orders.
  3. All International orders are manually input to ensure the correct tax charges for your location.
  4. It is the responsibility of you, the customer to provide the requisite evidence and information to be able to claim back VAT and prove that your order is Zero rated, if applicable. Once the full required evidence and information is received and verified by Blacklock Jewellery you will be credited back the VAT that you have been charged. You will receive the rebate in the form that the payment was received.
  5. Our site contains a large number of Products and it is always possible that, despite our best efforts, some of the Products listed on our site may be incorrectly priced. We will normally verify prices as part of our dispatch procedures. If we accept and process your order where a pricing error is obvious and unmistakeable and could have reasonably been recognised by the average customer as an error, we may end the Contract, refund you any sums you have paid and require return of any products provided to you.
  6. Product prices and delivery charges are liable to change at any time, but changes will not affect orders in respect of which we have already sent you a Dispatch Confirmation.
  7. Each piece of jewellery sold is priced according to current industry prices / indexes. Each Bespoke Order (please see clause 8.) is priced in relation to the time spent on design, weight of gold or platinum employed, the cost of diamonds and/or gemstones, hallmarking, additional fittings and setting and finishing. Prices are updated monthly.

Products and Services

  1. Blacklock Jewellery offers stock fine jewellery products ('Products'), these are defined as unique designs by Blacklock Jewellery listed on Blacklock Jewellery.com under the following categories 'Fine Jewellery' and 'Collections'.
  2. Blacklock Jewellery also offers a Bespoke commission service ('Bespoke Orders') where Clients work exclusively with our design team to create bespoke fine jewellery items. The 'Unique Jewels' category also sits under 'Bespoke Orders'.

Stock

  1. We are predominantly "make-to-order" jewellers which ensures that the quality of our jewellery remains extremely high and underlines our commitment to limited production runs.
  2. We do maintain a controlled amount of stock Products, but whilst we do our very best to ensure that there is an accurate inventory for your shopping ease, items do sell out. This usually happens when two or more customers order the same item at the same time, before our website has been updated. If this happens you will be notified in a timely manner (usually the same or next day), and we will offer you suggestions on fulfilment of your order or refund any monies paid by you.
  3. Products held in stock will be delivered within 3 - 5 working days subject to the correct sizing requirements.
  4. Products out of stock will be delivered within 10-15 working days.

Bespoke Orders

  1. General
    1. The creation of Bespoke Orders will be undertaken in full confidence and discretion of the person ordering the commission. From time to time we may request that the design is recreated for further sales and marketing purposes – this will be undertaken in full knowledge of the person that has placed the order.
    2. The design and all rights associated with it are still owned by Blacklock Jewellery, however files of all the final designs associated with the piece created are passed over to the individual that has commissioned the design once full payment is received. At all points until this moment the files are owned by Blacklock Jewellery. If these files are shared by the person requesting the commission with a competitor (within the bespoke jewellery / jewellery sector) we will look to take action.
    3. We do not allow the individual who has commissioned the piece to market / sell the product as their own.
    4. An estimate of the cost of undertaking the Bespoke Order will be given at any stage that the client requests. The estimate is an approximation of the cost of the job being undertaken and is based upon similar previous jobs and the cost of the precious metals, diamonds and gemstones being used.
    5. We will not be held to this price as the confirmed finished price. A quotation will be issued when the finished design is approved. We will however hold this price for seven days from the date that the quotation is issued due to the fluctuation of prices of precious metals, diamonds and gemstones.
    6. Bespoke Orders require a 50% deposit on approval of the design and confirmation of the order. The remaining 50% is paid upon delivery.
    7. All Bespoke Orders are payable by BACS transfer only details of which will be confirmed at point of Order confirmation.
    8. Production and delivery timescale of Bespoke Orders are dependent on complexity of the piece commissioned. We estimate an average time frame of 5-7 weeks from start to delivered item received.
  2. Supply to us of loose stone(s)/jewellery for Bespoke Orders
    1. When we are supplied loose stone(s) or jewellery by Clients for the purposes of Bespoke Orders in certain instances we will ask for 'proof of origin'. This protects you and us against unethical and criminal practices. We reserve the right to refuse to proceed with the Bespoke Order if the requisite paperwork is not provided.
  3. Examination and Assessment
    1. In the event that you wish to commission a Bespoke Order, from a loose diamond or gemstone, we will need to examine the gemstone to determine the correct way to proceed.
    2. We will submit a quotation to you when the Jewellery has been examined by a working jeweller, or the gemstone assessed by Ralph Blacklock, gemmologist.
    3. The examination process may take up to 2 weeks for the quotation to be confirmed. If gemstones need to be tested there may be an additional cost. You will be informed of this cost at the earliest convenience.
    4. Blacklock Jewellery reserves the right to refuse to work with loose diamonds or gemstones (as supplied by the Client)
  4. Estimates, Quotations and Order Processing
    1. Estimates are approximate calculations for the cost of undertaking an order. At no stage is Blacklock Jewellery liable to uphold an estimate.
    2. A quotation from Blacklock Jewellery formalises a previous estimate which confirms the current market price for your order. Once a quotation is received you are required to confirm in writing via email or letter that the quotation is approved before production can proceed. We will only commence work once we have received this as written confirmation.
    3. Quotations that are provided by us are valid for one month only; after this time, we will re-quote since the price of jewellery-based commodities (such as diamonds, gemstones and precious metals) is liable to change.
    4. We determine in our sole discretion whether to proceed or not with any Bespoke Order.
    5. Should the order not be accepted by us, Blacklock Jewellery will return the loose gemstones, diamonds or jewellery by exactly the same method of delivery receipt free of charge.

Code of Conduct

15th January 2020

This Code of Conduct sets out how Blacklock Jewellery works with select suppliers. We expect all of our suppliers to adhere to our values in all of their business practices.

Statement

Blacklock Jewellery was founded in 1832. From these founding days we have lived by the values of fairness, honesty, integrity and respect. As the business has developed and changed over its 175 years of existence these principles and values have guided us.

Blacklock Jewellery has the objective to operate as a profitable and responsible fine jewellery retailer, that sells high quality diamond and precious gemstone fine jewellery to Clients. In short we want to sell a superior fine jewellery product, whilst also seeking to uphold our Social, Ethical and Environmental Principles. We want to make a difference and we do this by considering the interests of our other stakeholders: customers, employees, those with whom we do business, and society as a whole.

We recognize that there are indirect impacts generated by our activities, in particular through our supply chain. We will seek to use our influence with those with whom we do business directly, in particular suppliers, to promote the achievement of our Social, Ethical and Environmental Principles.

We choose to work closely with only a very few select suppliers. We expect all of our Suppliers to adhere to these values in all of their business practices, which are articulated through the requirements listed below.  We also expect that our Suppliers will communicate these requirements to all of their Suppliers.

 I. Business Practices

  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations relating to their activities in the countries in which they operate. In particular the fundamental International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  • Engage in responsible business and not engage in or condone corrupt practices, which would include fraud, bribery, tax evasion and money laundering.
  • Expects that its suppliers will not offer or provide gifts, gratuities designed to induce, support or reward improper conduct in connection with any business or anticipated future business or where such gift, gratuity or entertainment might be seen or expected to compromise the receiver's judgment and integrity.

II. Human & Labour Rights

  • Ensure the following:
    • No use of child labour under the age of 15 and no hazardous work for children under 18. In addition, employers must comply with all their local legal requirements for young workers, particularly those pertaining to hours of work, wages, health and safety and general working conditions.
    • No forced, compulsory, trafficked or bonded labour (including the retention of identity or travel documents). Forced labour should be considered to include any work or service which is extracted from any person under the threat of penalty for its non-performance and for which the worker does not offer himself or herself voluntarily.
    • No discrimination based on race, caste, origin, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, union membership, political affiliation or age.
    • No harsh or inhumane treatment of workers. Provide a safe workplace free from harassment, and they will not permit the use of monetary fines, corporal punishment or other forms of mental or physical abuse, coercion or intimidation.
    • Working conditions are safe and hygienic in accordance with applicable local laws and regulations.
    • Blacklock Jewellery expects its suppliers to comply with local laws in respect of minimum wages, working hours, employee benefits and overtime.
    • Working hours comply with national laws and industry standards.
    • The rights of employees to freedom of association and collective bargaining are recognized and respected.

III. Environmental Protection

  • Comply with all environmental laws and regulations relating to their activities in the countries in which they operate.
  • Support initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility along the entire jewellery supply chain as well as complying with relevant locally applicable environmental law and regulations.
  • Identify activities where there are any environmental risks and take steps to implement environmental protections, management systems and remediation procedures where needed (e.g. addressing water, waste and energy).

IV. Sourcing

DiamondSuppliers

  • Adhere to the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) and the World Diamond Council system for warranties.
  • Suppliers to provide warranties in the form agreed by the World Diamond Council and/or Kimberley Process Certificates.
  • Purchase from legitimate sources, apply the Blacklock Jewellery Exclusion List, and ensure purchases are not funding conflict and are in compliance with UN Resolutions.
  • Confirm that all diamonds supplied have been sufficiently tested to be natural, not synthetic and untreated or free from enhancements unless otherwise stated.

Gold & Gemstone Suppliers

  • Make best endeavours to ensure:
    • The material is purchased from legitimate sources.
    • The material is extracted from conflict-free regions.
    • The trade of the material is not funding conflict.
    • The material (gemstones or precious metal) is accurately represented and disclosed.
  • Gold suppliers should apply the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas Supplement on Gold.

Exclusion Policy

As of 18th January 2020

Blacklock Jewellery understands the impact of mining for gold, diamonds and gemstones on many countries across the world. These raw materials are integral to the Blacklock jewellery business and are significant contributors to economic growth and development. This policy details how Blacklock Jewellery applies an inclusion / exclusion framework for ‘country risk’ around the mining of these materials.

Policy

The risk to legitimate sourcing is greatly affected by mining where there is conflict, corruption and/or poor governance.  Mining and trading of these minerals in some countries may infringe on human rights, be subjected to corrupt or unethical practices, and in some cases even fuel conflict.

We endeavour to monitor these country-level risks and may, from time to time, exclude countries from our sourcing.

Blacklock Jewellery uses government reports, OECD reports, other information sources and insights from suppliers and stakeholders to assess country risk.

Grounds for exclusion are as follows:

  • Any country where there is declared conflict.
  • Any country where there may be documented (but not declared) armed conflict may be excluded.
  • Sanction targets and regulations imposed by the United Nations Security Council, the European Union, and the UK government.
  • A country where Blacklock Jewellery has serious concerns about the basic human rights, and/or application of the due diligence required and acceptable practices.

Blacklock Exclusion List

As of 30th June 2020

Modern Slavery And Human Trafficking Statement

31 December 2016

This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps Blacklock Jewellery has taken during its financial year ending 31 December 2016 to ensure that slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking (collectively, "Modern Slavery") is not taking place in any part of its business or in its supply chains.

Statement

Blacklock Jewellery, founded in 1832, is a sixth generation family-owned fine jewellery designer and retailer.  The company only operates as a Bespoke Jeweller / Private Client / Online fine jewellery retail business and is run by family members. Blacklock Jewellery does not have any retail stores or own any part of the supply chain.

Blacklock Jewellery is committed to upholding high ethical standards and human rights.

Blacklock Jewellery sells diamonds and precious gemstones set in precious metal. Diamonds are the largest material that Blacklocks sources by both volume and by value. Blacklock Jewellery also sources semi-finished materials - primarily cut and polished diamonds - from a select group of suppliers with whom the company has long-standing relationships.

Blacklock Jewellery uses several small workshops for the fabrication and crafting of its jewellery. Blacklock Jewellery has a Code of Conduct, which rejects the use of forced labour.

Blacklock Jewellery expects its suppliers to comply with the Code of Conduct and to place similar expectations on their supply chains.

If we identify or suspect non-compliance with the Code of Conduct we will work with the relevant supplier to ensure that immediate remedial action is taken to address the situation, failing which to stop working with the supplier in question.

Blacklock Jewellery has also introduced an Exclusion Policy to restrict sourcing from what are deemed as very high-risk countries in respect to human rights and/or corruption.  Blacklock Jewellery has engaged with all of its existing key suppliers to assess risks in their respective supply chains in 2020 and will continue to do so on an annual basis.

For new suppliers Blacklock Jewellery requires that they provide information about their supply chain, assess human rights and labour rights risks (including modern slavery), and report any present or future risks to Blacklock Jewellery.

Blacklock Jewellery reserves the right to conduct audits of all of its suppliers.

Future plans include: training of Blacklock Jewellery staff, and annual reporting on all of the company’s efforts related to human rights risks and due diligence.
